UMID stands for Unique Medical Identification, a health card that provides medical benefits to railway employees, pensioners and dependents. This initiative was launched by South Central Railway which was later undertaken by Indian Railways.

UMID is translated as Umeed, ‘HOPE’, which creates a hassle-free medical system and ensures smooth, easy, quick and seamless access to healthcare services. This smart health card aims to create a free end-to-end medical system for pan India level employees and pensioners.

To create this unique medical UMID card, the Railway Department has launched a web portal and mobile app where individuals can register for this smart health card. Registered applicants have to go through the application process on https://umid.digitalir.in portal and submit their applications. After the submission of the application, it will undergo the verification process. Following successful verification UMID card will be generated. When I can Create my UMID Card?

After joining Railway Board, employees are allotted PF number which is also known as Provident Fund. It is a unique ID number for an employee. Every employee is given this ID within 1 month of joining the railways. So once a person gets PF number they can apply for Umid Card.

While applying for UMID Health Card, Employee/Pensioner has to upload following documents.

  • A passport size Photo of Employee/Pensioner
  • Identity Proof of Employee/Pensioner and their Dependents
  • Scanned Signature of Employee/Pensioner
  • Latest PPO copy (for Pensioner)
  • Recent Pension slip from bank for FMA status (for Pensioner)
  • OLD Health ID Card or Health book
  • Bonafide Certificate (applicable only if Dependents is over 21 years)

Step 1:

First visit the official website of Digital Indian Railways – User Management System, or navigate to @https://umid.digitalir.in/.

On the home page click on ‘Register Here’ button.

Next, choose Employee (if you are a working employee in railway)/Pensioner (if you are a retired person).

Enter Employee P.F No., PAN Card Number and Date of Birth then click on ‘Validate Details’.

Enter your Valid Mobile Number, then select ‘Get OTP’ button, enter the OTP you just received then verify it.

Step 6:

On the next step, Set a new password to access to UMID account, click on ‘Register button’.

After successful registration you will see a message on your screen “User Created Successfully”.

  • First visit the official website, https://umid.digitalir.in/web.

  • Enter the employee PF number or pensioner PPO number and password, fill the captcha then click on ‘Login’.
  • Once logged into the dashboard, click on ‘My Application Status’.
  • On this page, applicants can check the status of their application.

UMID Card Approval Process

  • Initiate Application: If it is marked as green, it means that the application has been submitted and is awaiting for verification.
  • Estt. Co-Ord. Clerk: Marked as green means the application has been approved and forwarded to the Clerk for further verification.
  • Established Clerk: If marked as green, the clerk has established your application.
  • Established Officer: If marked green, the application has been verified and you need to download your UMID card; if marked red, it means the application is awaiting for final verification.

Once your application is verified, a medical card will be issued for each individual and you can download the UMID card through online mode. The step-by-step process of downloading the UMID card pdf is available below.

  • Visit the official website of UMID.
  • After entering the homepage, click on the Login button.
  • Enter the employee’s PF number or pensioner PPO number and password captcha code.
  • Now select UMID (Employee / Pensioner).
  • Under the Master Dashboard section, select the ‘View / Download Medical Card’ option.
  • The names of the family members will be shown on the next page.
  • Now click on the download button under the action (whose ID card you want to download).
  • A PDF version of the UMID card will open containing both sides of the card.
  • Download and save the card and print it out.
